Is the Fox Mite same as Sarcoptic Mange?

I found out last night that a relatives dog which comes out with my 3 huskies for walks has fox mites. Is this the same as Sarcoptic Mange? Does Frontline help prevent this?

They are the same. Most people refer to it as sarcoptic mange, instead of fox mites, but they are the same condition, and it is contracted by mites from foxes or from their burrows. Many dogs get it when they haven’t been in contact with a fox or it’s burrow, but the mites are still around! It’s very, VERY contagious, so it is definitely possible that your dogs could have been exposed to it and may start showing signs of it. It is officially diagnosed only by a skin scraping at the vet’s office, but if you start seeing any of your dogs scratching a lot or licking, you should take them all in for skin scrapings. If any of them do have it, they will need dips every week for 4-6 weeks. Don’t miss any! At my clinic we use Mitaban, but there are some others too. Frontline won’t help to prevent it or to cure it. Whats wrong with my puppy?

I found a puppy back in the early days of October (we estimate him to be over 8 weeks of age) and I have been treating him for sarcoptic mange and he has been doing well. But yesterday I noticed his back end (hips and back legs) seem rather small and he walks awkwardly and his tummy is bloated sometimes. Do you know what could be wrong with him? PLEASE note that he HAS been wormed, this was what I suspected at first and I also did research on a condition called Bloat but it doesn’t really say anything about the back end being small. I’m going to feed him less and give him time to digest his food before play but does anyone have any suggestions/ ideas for home treatment or what could be causing it?
What I meant by (he has been wormed) is that he is wormless I’ve treated him and given him is puppy worming meds already hes up-to-date. And sadly I cannot take him to the vet (you wanna pull $200 bucks out your ass for me to take him I’ll gladly take it) but my cousin is a VET and she will be checking on him I just wanted to see if anyone els has had simaller expereances.

Nobody here can see through the monitor so a diagnoses is not possible. Even if someone offers suggestions, they could be wrong and following any advice here for your dog’s problems could make things worse.The best place to get answers about your dog’s problems are from your vet.
It really sounds like the dog is in need of vet’s attention, please take him asap.

Soldier Dillon Thirkill crawling carefully through the jungle. This puppy was adopted from the Agoura shelter and is recovering from a severe reaction to Ivermection, given for Sarcoptic mange (which he most likely does not even HAVE) His original vet wanted to Euthanize this pup a mere 10 hours before this video was taken. Quick thinking and a change in vets likely saved this pups life! Look at him now, out on the grass having FUN!

Treatment for sarcoptic mange?

What’s the best treatment I can do at home for sarcoptic mange? I was given promethrin by a good friend who owns a ranch. She uses it on her dogs and livestock (different dilutions depending on the animal).

Does it really work? Is there something else?

As long as your dog is not a collie, you be much better off with an ivermectin treatment. Why not order Revolution on line (one dose will cure your dog). I suspect the Promethrin will nothing against mange. Good luck.

Blisters on my boxer pup?

She is 5 1/2 mo. and has had a rough start due to the inhumane treatment from her breader. She had developed Blisters under her neck, chest and front legs. She will scratch and they ooze and bleed. My first thought was sarcoptic mange, but I dipped her last week and it is spreading. Any thoughts. I plan to take her to be checked after the weekend, but wish I could do something now.
It’s not like I’m waiting on purpose. I don’t get paid until saturdays, and my vet office isn’t open then.

Also, I used the treatment for sarcoptic mange in dogs found over the counter and followed the directions carefully.
OK got her in the vet today and I was right about the mange, just not the right kind of mange. She has "RED" mange and she got an infection on top of it from scratching. She’s on med’s and is scheduled for dips. Thank you all.

Not sure what you mean by "blisters". It sounds like a skin infection perhaps. It’s best if your vet does a skin scrape to determine whether it is sarcoptes or demodectic mites. Treatment is different. Or, it could be a bad staph infection and might need antibiotic therapy. Meanwhile, you can bathe her in a gentle oatmeal shampoo made for dogs, using cool water. That might be soothing. Call your vet tomorrow and maybe they can recommend a safe antihistamine until you can get her in. Maybe they can see her before the weekend?

Hannah is a very sweet 5 year-old Basset/Beagle mix girl who’s had a rough time of it lately. She came into a rural county dog pound as a stray. Her skin was in terrible condition. She was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange which is a painful, very itchy skin condition that requires dips and medication to get rid of. Puppies need foster home

Please crosspost! These babies only have until tomorrow!

These are 8 week old puppies in need of an angel!

They have sarcoptic mange but it is not a bad case. They have already received their first treatment of Promeris.

We need a foster for 3 weeks – they just need love and a safe place to recover.

They are most likely little shepherd/chow pups and so sweet!

We will provide all food and medical.

a pet I rehomed gave my pet sarcoptic mange?

Ok my ex boyfriend couldn’t take care of his dog so I took her.
I tried to rehome her. I never could find a good home for her.

Well back in January I found her a home I thought. They seemed to love her and she stayed with them until about 4 weeks ago.
They called and said they couldn’t take care of her anymore. So we went and got her.

Well as soon as we got her home she was itching and scratching furiously. We assumed fleas (we saw fleas on her) so we treated her with frontline immediately and gave her children’s benadryl.

Then my cat started itching so I was like damnit now the cat has fleas!!!

..Well..they were both still itching even after flea meds. So we took the dog to the vet.

Sarcoptic mange.

We took the cat to the vet.

I am furious now. Those people gave me back a dog with the mange that has now infested my cat.

I really want to say something to them.. should I? Or should I just let it go?

I can’t prove they gave it to her other than the fact she was itching furiously within hours of us getting her home from their house, and NONE of my cats had ANY fleas, itching, rashes, hair loss, ticks, or anything at all until we brought back the dog.

You should confront her previous owners in person with the fact that the dog had Sarcoptic mange and make them pay for the flea treatment, vet and any thing else you had to pay for because of that for both you cat and dog.Good luck

mange in dogs?

Hi my six month old golden retriever was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange 2 weeks ago and it is beeing treated and he is allready a lot better. We think that the mange was transmitted by another dog. Our vet has given us something called revolution, and it is a liquid you drip on its neck every fe months. Has anyone got experience with this if so please tell me. thanks Kata

i did and for my dog it worked. I dont know for yours, your dog might not be suitable for it
