Supplement for my Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

My Staffy has very itchy skin on her back and down her legs, she nibbles, scratches and licks.
I have been to the vets lots of times and I have Maleseb scrub to bath her with every 2 days,Stronghold drops and Viacutan pump to put on her food. The 1st vet I went to just said she had an allergy to something but was unsure and the 2nd vet said she had Sarcoptic Mange. She was treated with antibiotics as she had an infection from the scratching and she also gave me all of the above. This seemed to work and towards the end of last year she had most of her fur back and wasn’t itching. However, now we are in the summer months again, it has flared up. I have done some research on the internet as I have noticed that these flare ups only come in summer and having used all the potions the vet gave me and nothing has made a difference.
The thing that keeps cropping up is Hayfever and that dogs release histamines into their skin and that is what makes it itchy.
I have found a product from a company called Pooch and Mutt who claim to be able to alleviate the symptoms and allow the dog to be free from these symptoms and let the skin and coat recover.
Has anyone else got a dog with these problems or had and if so what are you/did you do for them?
Also can anyone vouch for Pooch and Mutt??
Any advice would be great and please don’t tell me to go to the vet as she is under her, Im just looking for anything extra for my dogs relief.
Thanks.

Didds; Dogs don’t just get born allergic to summer. Do ye feed the Dog raw? If not, I’d strongly suggest chucking the " Complete Diet " ye vet’s probably also selling ye and feed the animal raw flesh and bones.

Her system’s most likely reacting to a gross overload of the pure crap in her diet. Remove the source and she’ll be able to bring herself round, naturally.

Scabies NYC – (212)-644-9494 – NYC Scabies

http://www.scabiesnyc.org/ (212)-644-9494
Scabies is an infestation of the skin with the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabei. Infestation is common, found worldwide, and affects people of all races and social classes. Scabies spreads rapidly under crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people, such as in hospitals, institutions, child-care facilities, and nursing homes.

What are the signs and symptoms of scabies infestation?

Pimple-like irritations, burrows or rash of the skin, especially the webbing between the fingers; the skin folds on the wrist, elbow, or knee; the penis, the breast, or shoulder blades. The scalp is not usually affected.
Intense itching, especially at night and over most of the body.
Sores on the body caused by scratching. These sores can sometimes become infected with bacteria.
How did I get scabies?

By direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person already infested with scabies. Contact must be prolonged (a quick handshake or hug will usually not spread infestation). Infestation is easily spread to sexual partners and household members. Infestation may also occur by sharing clothing, towels, and bedding.

Who is at risk for severe infestation?

People with weakened immune systems and the elderly are at risk for a more severe form of scabies, called Norwegian or crusted scabies.

How long will mites live?

Once away from the human body, mites do not survive more than 48-72 hours. When living on a person, an adult female mite can live up to a month.

Did my pet spread scabies to me?

No. Pets become infested with a different kind of scabies mite. If your pet is infested with scabies (also called mange), and they have close contact with you, the mite can get under your skin and cause itching and skin irritation. However, the mite dies in a couple of days and does not reproduce. The mites may cause you to itch for several days, but you do not need to be treated with special medication to kill the mites. Until your pet is successfully treated, mites can continue to burrow into your skin and cause you to have symptoms.

How soon after infestation will symptoms begin?

For a person who has never been infested with scabies, symptoms may take 4-6 weeks to begin. For a person who has had scabies, symptoms appear within several days. You do not become immune to an infestation.

How is scabies infestation diagnosed?

Diagnosis is most commonly made by looking at the burrows or rash. A skin scraping may be taken to look for mites, eggs, or mite fecal matter to confirm the diagnosis. If a skin scraping or biopsy is taken and returns negative, it is possible that you may still be infested. Typically, there are fewer than 10 mites on the entire body of an infested person; this makes it easy for an infestation to be missed.

Can scabies be treated?

Yes. Several lotions are available to treat scabies. Always follow the directions provided by your physician or the directions on the package insert. Apply lotion to a clean body from the neck down to the toes and left overnight (8 hours). After 8 hours, take a bath or shower to wash off the lotion. Put on clean clothes.

All clothes, bedding, and towels used by the infested person 2 days before treatment should be washed in hot water; dry in a hot dryer.

A second treatment of the body with the same lotion may be necessary 7-10 days later. Pregnant women and children are often treated with milder scabies medications.

Who should be treated for scabies?

Anyone who is diagnosed with scabies, as well as his or her sexual partners and people who have close, prolonged contact to the infested person, should also be treated. If your health care provider has instructed family members to be treated, everyone should receive treatment at the same time to prevent reinfestation.

How soon after treatment will I feel better?

Itching may continue for 2-3 weeks, and does not mean that you are still infested. Your health care provider may prescribe additional medication to relieve itching if it is severe. You will know that the medication has been effective if no new burrows or rashes should appear 24-48 hours after effective treatment.

A rash may persist even if all the mites are effectively killed. This may be due to a dermatitis, or inflammation of the layers of the skin. In these cases, a mild topical steroid may be recommended.

what does yeast infection on a dog’s back & tail look like?

my dog has lost most of his hair along his back and tail and his ears smell. It is not sarcoptic mange and he is the only dog with this. He has had chronic ear infections and has a routine ear med. It seems to be like atopic dermatitis and he seems better with benadryl, he is also 13 yrs old. My vet has said I can use aloe vera juice after bathing him in cool water, as well as Bergamot, lavender, and almond oils to sooth & reduce inflamation & odor. Vet is 100 + miles away so I have to do symptom care until July 15th when vet returns.

I used Google and searched for photos of dog’s with yeast infection on the back looks like and this is what Google found :

Could Fungisan cure ringworm in kittens?

I recently got 2 kittens from a home advertising in the paper, and one had missing spots of hair (the shorter haired of the two). When I asked what was wrong, they said they had scratched the hair off because they had bad fleas…too which they did. They also said they were a month and a half. Well after instense combing I decreased they’re fleas considerably. Although after that they still lost hair in patches and soon his "armpits" were raw. We the thought sarcoptic mange, but then after a few days my boyfriend had spots that developed into ringworm. He’s never had it before and he had the most contact. I then looked up ringworm for cats and the symptoms were spot on, we called around and basically all the vets told us that they wouldn’t work on my kittens bc they are really young. I looked up products that were local (ie. Petsmart/Petco) and found fungisan a spray on anti-septic. It had the chemical that is know to kill ringworm so we tried it, after one application the hair started to grow back we continued for 4 days straight. Since the directions said to continue till hair grows back. They’ve been seperated for about a week and a half. The one with the missing hair, looks so much better, it was bad now he’s a handsome devil.
I guess I want to know if anyone out there could give me some incite on this product and its ultimate healing ability or if it had worked for them

i adopted 2 kittens who came home with ringworm. i went through hundreds of dollars of vet treatments, which didn’t work. i also later found out that the medication they sold me for $20 was exactly the same as over-the-counter human medication sold for about $5.

anyways, i have also found at PetSmart a spray called Fungisan, which seems to be working really well on my kittens. it’s easy to use and inexpensive, and my kittens are growing their hair back and doing really well.

my dog has a terrible reoccurring skin rash, any herbal remedies or diagnosis?

hi. my pitt bull is almost two years old and has always had some skin problems, pretty consistently. she is constantly scratching. has had ear infections etc. i paid $800 for an allergy test and changed her food/treats and it has not gotten any better. recently they are like blisters, rashes, she is shedding much more. i feel as though she is miserable! the skin between her toes is red without hair and the vet just gives me cream(that she licks off) and benadryl. that is treating symptoms and making her sleepy but not a solution to the problem. please help!
p.s. only experienced members answer please(vet techs, breeders) i have plenty of experience with dogs and cant put my finger on this one. its not sarcoptic mange or anything like that

I have a pittie who also suffered from skin rashes and yeast ear infections. Cleared it with Dermacton and itchy Ear drops from the same company. Some pitties just seem prone to these problems.

Hope your dogs get the relief mine did from these products – she is like a different dog, much happier and less cranky. It was hard to live with her always scratching and biting herself.

Are your mange products available in Stores?

URGENT help needed! Will rate best answer. My 3 month Old Chihuahua has a baaad problem…?

Hey all..

I would like to appeal to people who have had experience with dogs. I really need some urgent advice on this as i feel like crying for the sake of my puppy.

Heres the problem:

I have the 3 month old Chihuahua (black and tan) named Muppet. I got him from a certified breeder who flew him a long distance to get to me. I love him as if he were a child of mine, and i only want the best for him. As any good pet owner would, i took him for his shots at 8 weeks old. The vet told me he prefers waiting till the puppies are 8 weeks old instead of 6 weeks old to have thier first vaccination. This is because the vet believes that its best to do it when they are a little more mature.

All went well and i took him to the vet for his shot. He was well behaved and didn’t even peep when he had his shot. He also weighed 500g! LOL. Anyway, the cornea of his eye was red when i got him, and slowly swelled more in the first 2 weeks i had him. When i took him for his shots, the vet said that it’s a burst gland and that he would have to go for an operation when he is 4 months old "if" he is old big. So i got some ointment to treat the symptoms and took him home after his shot.

About 2 hours after that, i noticed that he had an irritating itch and scratched it quite ofen. I assumed it was fleas… That was until a week later that he started scratching himself raw and till he bled. Ive treated it with lots of medication like disinfectant etc. But nothing is helping. Ive also been reading on the net alot about what the cause might be. And so far it seems as though it is either Demodectic mange or Sarcoptic Mange. Where he scratches, he has lost lots of hair and keeps scratching even though it is already bleeding and raw.

It really breaks my heart to see him do this, and he cries as he does so. I have given him a bath in anti flea and tick powder, as well as misted him down with Anti Bacterial Spray for grooming. Ive also given him a bath in Hydrogen Peroxide and Borax (because this apparently kills the hives off), but he is scratching still (and i did the Hydrogen bath tonight by the way). It got so bad that i had to bandage his paws up so he cant scratch anymore. Im going to be taking him to the vet either tomorrow or tuesday (Im in South Africa) but what can i do in the meantime or get for him? I also read up that the pet owner should rather wait until the dogs immune system cures its self if it can or it can be passed the a litter if the dog is bred with.

Im very worried about this and need some advice! =[ Its heartbreaking to see muppet like this. Please help!

(i also dont want any nasty comments like the dog should be euthanized or anything.. i will just give people with those comments low ratings.)

I will rate best answer
P.S please excuse the way ive worded this! Hehe, my spelling sux sometimes. And i gave him a bath in anti flea and tick shampoo as well as anti flea and tick powder and treated him with anti bacterial grooming spray for dogs and cats!
*note*

The shampoo and anti bacterial spray i used was herbal, and contained oatmeal, rosemary and aloe to help alleviate skin irritations.

Taking him to the Vet is your best choice to find out what is going on. It could be allergies, contact dermatitis, mites, problems with his food. You can give him some Benadryl to lessen the itching & see if that works. It should help.

When you go to the Vet he will do a skin scraping to see if there are mites. If no mites he will suggest your other options.

I had a Dane that was always scratching & he had some mites but it wasn’t any of the mange mites. Regular dips or flea & tick treatments helped him. It never went to the other dogs but the mites would bite me.

It is horrible to have a problem like this & not to know what it could be or what you can do to stop it. You don’t want your baby suffering.

Your Vet will be of more help than any of us.
